-Distributed 456 kosher meals to both Jews and non-Jews at the beginning of the pandemic
-Over the last three months, we distributed 2730 hot meals and sandwiches, a dozen pizzas, thousands of snacks, fruits and drinks to a Homeless shelter for “drop-ins” in Yonkers. We continue to do this so if you want to get involved just contact socialaction@templest.orgor rleroy634@gmail.com. We need people who are willing to cook, drive or donate microwaveable containers or ingredients to cook.
-We helped one of our own families for two weeks with meals while they recuperated from illness
-we donated 14,400 medical-grade gloves to WJCS and NWH
-we prepared 50 “Grab and Go” lunches for St. Bartholomew’s soup kitchen and will need to do so again on August 9th. again contact socialaction@templest.org if you want to help
-Wendi Silverman and Stacey Simensky created an Intergenerational “Writing Exchange/Connecting Across the Years” which immediately accepted many teens, tweens, seniors and adults.
-shopped for those who are not able. Please let us, the temple or The Caring Community know if you need anything.
–Provided and continue to provide financial aid to many local charities that need unprecedented help at this time; several congregants made and continue to make donations to these activities and our Social Action cause/s.
-ran a Temple Beautification Day on June 28th where 21 hearty volunteers braved the heat and planted flowers, pruned trees, mulched, weeded and watered, etc. Again, please email socialaction@templest.org if you want to be involved in the next Beautification Day
-we have distributed over a thousand masks to various social service agencies throughout the county. We are doing these actions without direct contact.
Social action is here for those in need and welcomes any and all to help as we move forward through this crisis, some things we have done and are in need of help with:
-assisted in the distribution of 460 Kosher meals to those in need
-helping with meals and other shopping for families who are homebound due to illness or are at risk in public situations
-in the process of donating 12,000 medical grade gloves to Northern Westchester Hospital and Westchester Jewish Community Services
-set up an ongoing brainstorming conference call to help those in need, all are welcome to join
-working with congregant and local local clinical psychotherapist to offer Mindfulness/relaxation/meditation techniques to help us cope with stress- Saturday April 11 at noon on Zoom -Seeking Serenity: During Covid
-preparing to back up local nutrition programs in Bedford and Mt. Kisco that may be closing down due to illness
-along with TST Board, contacting seniors and other congregants to keep up socialization and help with any needs
-preparing and delivering Sunday lunch (Grab and Go) for St. Bartholomew’s soup kitchen in White Plains
.-creating a Senior Writing Exchange/ Connecting Across the Years between Seniors and teens and others that may want to get involved
-about to start helping shelters and other local social service organizations with food, masks, etc., we need people who can sew and people who are willing to cook. We are doing these actions without direct contact.
