Rabbi Greenberg’s Message, 5/23/25
May 23, 2025This past Monday, the Westchester County Board of Legislators and our County Legislative Representative Erika Pierce honored TST and Gary Cohn, Richard Leroy and Gayle Wasserman for their work on the Community Thanksgiving Program.
The temple received a proclamation declaring Sunday, May 25th, 2025, as Community Thanksgiving Dinner Program Day in the county of Westchester. The proclamation also noted Gary, Rich and Gayle for bringing communities together in acts of compassion and loving kindness with critical support from Temple Shaaray Tefila. Also recognized were Westchester Youth Alliance, Beth El and our partners at churches, mosques and the numerous individuals who give of their time and money to make this program a success.
The program serves close to 4,000 meals and provides financial support to members of the community, social services agencies, food pantries, Boys and Girls Clubs, Neighbors Link, The Community Center of Northern Westchester and more. Over 1,000 volunteers participate in this incredible program each year.
Gary, Gayle and Rich gave moving speeches about the value of sharing our Jewish values and ideals with the community via this program. Richard Leroy summed up this work with what’s become a signature phrase – “It’s Tikun Olam, baby.”
So please take a moment this Sunday to remember that it’s Community Thanksgiving Dinner Program Day in the County of Westchester and start thinking about what you can do to help this Thanksgiving.
