Welcome, Rabbinical Intern Ranata Shlobin
June 19, 2025We needed to forward our meeting in June one week to June 19. We are reading The Women by Kristen Hannah.
The Book for July has been changed by request from the presenter, Susan Glickman. We will meet (as of now) on the second Thursday, July 10th. Our book will be; The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon. The is an historical mystery inspired by the life and diary of Martha Ballard, a renowned 18th century midwife who defied the legal system and wrote herself into American history. She investigates a murder and scandal, fighting prejudice and injustice to uncover the truth and leaves a remarkable legacy.
For August the Presenter is Jill Proskin. Book is not yet decided. Will let you know when it is.
For September Presenter is Susan Weil. Book is James by Percival Everett. This novel reimagines Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn from the perspective of Jim, the enslaved Black man who accompanies Huck Finn. The story takes place in 1861, as Jim overhears plans to sell him to a New Orleans owner, separating him from his family. He hides on Jackson Island to plan his escape, which becomes a dangerous journey downs the Mississippi River with Huck.
For October Presenter is Dina Epstein. Book is The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali. A heartfelt, epic new novel of friendship, betrayal, and redemption set against three transformative decades in Tehran, Iran. A great way to understand how Iran became the country it is today.
