First of all please see pictures at bottom of the veggies of our labors at our TST Community Vegetable Garden (led by Sharon Reiner & congregants) This was the harvest over the last five days and we have had 3-4 other cucumber, eggplant, and zucchini harvests. Tomatoes have recently come in. The beneficiaries of our labors have been the Mt. Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry, Community Center of Northern Westchester, and Neighbors LInk to name a few.
Also pictured below are 60 Grab & Go lunch bags, 110 bottles of hand sanitizer, fruits, snacks and bottles of water for the St.Bartholomew’s Soup Kitchen, White Plains. We would be cooking a full lunch/dinner in their facility but the pandemic doesn’t allow that so they pivoted, so we pivoted. We continue to honor the memory of Stu Finkelstein who started the work with St. Bart’s and had an untimely accidental death a couple of years ago. We do this for him, them, the homeless and working poor and for all of us!
If you are unaware, Neighbors LInk has been doing food distributions to their population and the Mt. Kisco community each week. Gary Cohn leads us in helping them to organize and distribute food provided by Feeding Westchester. Over two of the last three weeks Neighbors Link has distributed food to 583 and 512 households and we are waiting for results from last week. Those are huge numbers and it is both a wonder and a shame to see the cars lined up down the street waiting to have food put in their car trunks.
Finally, as you know we have been providing hot meals and sandwiches for the Broadway Manor homeless shelter in Yonkers over the last four months.
Results to date: 4169 meals/sandwiches + 12 pizzas + 144 cans of V8 + five jars of pickles + snacks, fruits, drinks =WOW!
Thank you for all who have cooked, made sandwiches, picked up and delivered the food, donated raw ingredients to cook, donated microwaveable containers for the effort, and donated money for all of our efforts!!
Let me say thank you again to all of you who have participated in some way! We can not do it all without you!
If you want to get involved in any of these efforts please respond to this email or email socialaction@templest.org. WE NEED YOU, to be successful, at this time in our society which might be the most trying time for those in need, some of which are folks who have never had any need!!
