GREEN TEAM SAPLING SALE!

Tu b’Shevat is on February 12th-13th, this is the special holiday which honors trees and reminds us, as Jews, of our duty to care for the natural world. This year, the Temple’s Green Team is once again hosting a wonderful tree and shrub planting opportunity for you and your family to invest in a greener future.

The Tu b’shevat Sapling Sale!

We are offering up a lovely selection of tree and shrub saplings which you can purchase to plant on your own property.

By participating in this sapling sale, you will be doing your part to grow more trees and shrubs in New York, a part of future forests, for ourselves and for future generations.

 ORDERING INFORMATION:

 1) Native Tree Saplings, $12, two saplings with each order

• Sycamore –  fast growing trees that can grow to 100 feet, with distinctive bark that peels away in white patches; provide food and shelter for birds and other wildlife; help stabilize soil and contribute to air purification
• Burr Oak – known for its massive trunk and particularly large acorns; popular as a shade tree; valuable food source for wildlife; can grow to 100 feet

2) Native Shrub Package, $18, a mix of four small shrubs. Beautiful accents that provide food, pollination sources and habitat for native insects and wildlife as well as food for your family.

Each package includes one of each of these four shrubs:

• Highbush Cranberry
• Black Chokeberry
• Beach Plum
• Sand Cherry

Orders start on Tu-b’Shevat and continue until we are sold out.

Pick up in May (date TBD).
Notes: Saplings are small (approximately 5-12 inches high) and can take 2-3 years to get established. You can plant trees and shrubs in the spring and watch them grow over time. This is such an inexpensive, easy and yet important opportunity to do your part in investing in the future of our area.

Also note that a portion of the proceeds from this saplings sale will be used by the Green Team to fund future sustainability projects for the Temple.
