PRAY WITH US

Sabbath and holiday prayer at Temple Shaaray Tefila is an affirmation of the values, ideals and yearnings that we share.  Diverse in our respective backgrounds, we are recognized as a “traditionally oriented” Reform congregation.  Among us are those raised Reform, Conservative, Orthodox, as well as those who are not Jewish.  Our goal is to create an atmosphere of joy, inspiration and an affirmation of Jewish consciousness.  We offer an array of different experiences each Sabbath, intending to engage and inspire participation for all who enter our sanctuary.

Shabbat Evening Services

First Sabbath Evening of Each Month:
“FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE” is a musically oriented service with a unique flavor of joy and celebration.  Musical instruments and festive voices evoke participation and an atmosphere of Jewish celebration.  This service begins at 8:00 and is followed by an Oneg Shabbat, an opportunity to meet other congregants and share greetings.

The “Friday Night Live” Service is preceded by a communal Sabbath Dinner open to the entire congregation.  Contact the office for details and reservations.

The first Friday evening of each month begins with our TOT SHABBAT SERVICE at 6:00.  Through music, story telling, and interactive participation, young children and their families come to feel comfortable and excited as this experience lays the foundation for rich Jewish identity.  While all are welcome, this experience seeks to especially engage children between ages three and seven and their families.

Second Sabbath Evening of Each Month:
Our FAMILY SERVICE  is a highly participatory celebration of the Sabbath and Jewish life.  Whether recognizing the birthdays of our children, or enjoying the melodies of our Junior Choir, this experience seeks to provide for a shared family experience.

Each month, the FAMILY SERVICE is preceded by a Religious School Grade Sabbath dinner.  These dinners serve to promote social contacts among families, and a sense of  community welcome.

The SHABBAT FORUM is also held on the Sabbath evening of the month.  An abbreviated service is followed by a compelling program or guest speaker.  This Sabbath experience is geared especially to adults of our congregation and seeks to provide exposure to significant issues of our day.

Third Sabbath Evening of Each Month
Our Sabbath service features our Adult Choir and has a unique and spiritual quality. Children whose bar/bat mitzvah anniversary occurs during each month are invited to participate in the service.  While some may regard this as our most “traditional” service, great emphasis is placed upon participation and features the melodies, warmth and spirit that our congregants have long cherished.

Fourth Sabbath Evening of Each Month
This service features unique interpretations of Jewish worship and prayer.  Music is central to this service, and usually features the participation of young Israeli musicians or

others with the ability to compliment our prayerful expressions.

The fourth Friday of each month also features COMMUNITY SABBATH EXPERIENCES, held each month in different neighborhoods and in homes of our congregants.  The intent is that this intimate setting and smaller group will promote a closeness among congregants, and an opportunity to share both prayer and meaningful dialogue.
