TBMP - ToaSTY B'nai Mitzvah Project
A significant component of the Bar/Bat Mitzvah experience is our social action program. It is important for our students to understand that becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah involves tikkun olam--repairing our world. Through this program we hope to instill the responsibility towards “action” by involving our students in interesting and rewarding activities.
Because of this, we require our students to participate in the ToaSTY B'nai Mitzvah Project or T.B.M.P., with each student engaging in at least three, one-time group social action activities under my direction in addition to an individual mitzvah project of their choosing. These are safe, appropriate, and well-supervised settings for our children. The activities are gratifying for the volunteers as well as for the recipients of their kindness.
Please consider all of your options before making a decision. You should then complete the online registration form as soon as possible. We will then contact you to let you know if all has been approved.
Once your child has completed all components of the program, two items must be submitted: the first is a letter of completion from the organization for which the student had volunteered. The second is a one-page essay explaining what they did, how they liked the experience, and what they got out of it. This allows us to make sure that all events and organizations continue to enhance the experience for all of our B’nai Mitzvah families.
Thank you for your cooperation, and we wish you an enjoyable and meaningful experience. While we do have a minimum of requirements, there is no end to how involved you can become. A mitzvah is not only a good deed, but the obligation of every Jew.
B'shalom,
